Modelling F.A.Q's
Q. Is there an age requirement?
A. The modelling and acting industry is open to all ages.
Q. Is there a height requirement?
A.Your height will determine the areas in the industry that will be appropriate for you. For high fashion runway you need to be taller, while in many print or televison commercial advertisment height is less important.
Q. Do I have what it takes? How do I have to look?
A. A model or actor can range from cute to glamorous to "character" looking. Remember that this is an industry open to many different looks, styles, ages and ethnicities. There are many productions requiring many different looks and skills. Mostly, success comes from being professional and having a lot of determination.
Q. Do you have to take classes or workshops at NOW to work with NOW Model & Talent Management?
A. No, not at all - we are an agency, however the more knowledgable you are the better your chances will be at a booking or audition. Going to an audition can be nerve-wracking enough so taking workshops or learning as much as you can about the industry makes it that much easier. People booking models or actors want people that know what they are doing since they are paying you to do a job!
Q. Won't the agency pay for everything if they really like me?
A. This is a definite myth. Agencies are very unlikely to pay for pictures, travel costs or any other expenses you will likely incur to attend auditions. Later in your career you may have companies in other countries that may cover some of the travel costs for you.
Q. Do I need to get professional pictures before coming to NOW?
A. No, at NOW we work hard in the development of a portfolio that is appropriate for you. We book well known professional photographers, make-up artists and stylists...the same ones major clients use. They know what clients are looking for and how best to showcase you.
Q. What about the "scams" you hear about?
A. Unfortunately there are unethical people in every industry that paint a bad image for the ones who are professional and do it right. Ask yourself has the agency stood the test of time? Be aware of an agency's claim to guarantee you work in exchange for money upfront. No one can guarantee anyone work, even the most beautiful individuals. Remember the old adage that "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is". Most importantly make sure that you feel absolutely comfortable with the people in that agency. Get straight, knowledgable answers from them, afterall you will hopefully be working with that agency for a long time.
Good luck.
